Can't people believe what they want?

I grew up never going to church but just because you don't go doesn't mean you might not be spiritual or religious also if you parents force you, you don't know If your actually religious or not because you've never had any other choice. So what's the big deal if I'm 15 and want to explore religion and stuff if it's not real it doesn't affect me and if it ends up helping me even better! So why are people so forceful, can they be open minded and let me know what I'm asking and not telling me the opposite!!! So how can you explore religion and spirituality?
